Michel’le Movie Dr. Dre Tried To Stop With Lawsuit Debuts

lifetime-biopic-702x336This past week, numerous media sources made reports about music mogul Dr. Dre’s threats to sue singer and reality TV star Michel’le.

Lawyers for Dr. Dre have issued cease and desist letters over the release of “Surviving Compton: Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, and Michel’le,” a biopic based on Michel’le’s life as an artist at Ruthless Records and Deathrow Records. However, Sony Pictures (the film’s production company) and Lifetime (the TV network that released the film) didn’t bend to any legal threats.

On Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 8/7 p.m. EST and CST, “Surviving Compton” made its world premier debut on time and on schedule. The riveting biopic chronicles Michel’le’s life from the late 1980s until the early 2000s. This film tells Michel’le’s side of the story, which was infamously left out of 2015’s wildly successful “Straight Outta Compton,” a straight-to-theater biopic about the legendary rap group NWA.

Michel’le’s biopic about the days when Ruthless Records (and later Deathrow Records) reigned supreme over the entertainment industry showcases the musical genius of the “Something In My Heart” songtress. However, “Surviving Compton” is appropriately named.

It takes a special kind of strength to live through what Michel’le experienced during such volatile days in the music industry. She did all that on top of bearing children by two of hip hop’s most notorious rivals and California-bred music moguls. Domestic abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, and a depiction of the $ex-fueled lifestyles of a host of entertainers is definitely on full display in “Surviving Compton.”
