Mindful Mornings: Determination by Iyanla Vanzant

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

Today I completed my first 10K (a little over 6 miles) after having fallen off of the wagon.

In just over two weeks, I will run my first 10K marathon and I was starting to think about backing out because of my lack of preparation thus far. Today, I decided NOT to quit. This short message from Iyanla Vanzant was just what I needed!

I hope it inspires you to do that “thing” that you were about to quit.

Mindful Mornings: What kind of person are you?

Monday, May 14th, 2012

People move towards people who energize them and make them feel good about themselves and about life. It therefore follows that people move away from people who drain them of energy and make them feel bad about themselves and life, in general.

I once heard television personality and Psychologist, Dr. Phil, ask a very simple question: “Are you any fun to be around?” Ask yourself this question constantly and consistently and you will know what kind of person you are; the one people move away from or the one people move towards.

Mindful Mornings: You have work to do. Just do it.

Monday, May 7th, 2012

When you allow yourself to live your life playing small because of fear, that’s sad. When you allow another person or other people to smother and stifle you because of their fears, that is even sadder. To live your life in constant fear of what “they” will say or in fear that “they” will not approve…that is a Tragedy.

Your life has a purpose and you have an OBLIGATION to fulfill it. Nothing and no one has the right to stop you. Nothing and no one has the ability to stop you. YOU have work to do. Just do it.

Mindful Mornings: Choose what you want

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

I’m so excited about life! Not for any specific reason. I woke up about three hours ago and have been intentional about thinking good [God] things (sowing) and as the day goes(time), I am aware of how Good I feel (reaping). Imagine how good your life can be and feel if you were intentional about every thought that you allowed and every word that you spoke. Imagine if you could choose only what you want to think and what you want to say and could discard the rest! Well…you can. I’m choosing Good things-what about you?

Mindful Mornings: Self Esteem

Monday, February 27th, 2012

If the price of being “liked” or, so called, loved is compromising your values and sense of self-respect, then it is better NOT to be liked.

Your opinion of yourself is way more important than the opinion(s) that other people have of you. If you understand this, you’re SOLID.

Mindful Mornings: Other People’s Opinions

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

I’ve learned that as you become more and more of a “public figure”, you must be skilled in focusing and also eliminating distractions. You must be able to define yourself for yourself. If you do not do these two things, you’ll be pulled in so many directions that you won’t even know who you are anymore.

People will always have opinions and most of them are irrelevant but the most important opinion is the one that you have of yourself. What is your truth? And are you living it?

Mindful Mornings: What are YOU modeling?

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

People follow your lead. If you respect yourself, they respect you. If you place a high value on your time, they will value it too. It works in reverse as well.

As with anything, there are exceptions but before you complain about how you were treated, always ask yourself one question: What was I modeling?

Mindful Mornings: Happy and Grateful

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

If you find yourself feeling down, sad and sorry for yourself, you have probably shifted your focus from what you DO have to what you DON’T have. Sometimes “happiness” is just about shifting your focus. Just be mindful of what you’re focused on and you’ll be amazed at how often you have to SHIFT. If you get in the habit of shifting your focus from what you DON’T have to what you DO have, you’ll be amazed at the results! This is how you begin to live a life of GRATITUDE.

Grateful people are “happy” people and ungrateful people are unhappy people. It really is that simple. What do you choose-gratitude and happiness or complaining and unhappiness?

I choose Gratitude.

Mindful Mornings:Freedom

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

I used to think that I wanted to be “free”; free from poverty, free from hate, hurt, being controlled…Today I am grateful for the revelation that I AM free and I have always been free. I am free because my freedom comes from within. I am free because I was created to BE free. Any bondage that we feel is a creation of our minds; it is not real.

FREEDOM IS REAL. It always has been and always will be. We can either embrace it or deny it.

Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.-A Course In Miracles

Mindful Mornings: When things don’t work

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

Anytime YOU get involved in something, before YOU throw your hands up and say that it did or does not work, you have to first consider if YOU worked. This applies to all things from entrepreneurial ventures to relationships and marriages. The only constant in your life is YOU and what YOU believe, think, speak and do. Anyone who has knowledge of this one truth can never blame anyone or anything when things don’t work out the way he or she wanted them to.

Peace.
